Nahant HIstoric

Architecture: Pomeroy & Co. and Zephyr and Ore

Interiors: Zephyr and Ore

Builder: Modern Heritage

Set on the rocky coast of Massachusetts, this home was built in 1842 at a time when there were less than a few dozen summer cottages on Nahant, and several years before a proper road connected the area to the mainland. Over the course of the home’s 180 years, it has seen an evolution of lifestyles and priorities. Our clients see themselves as stewards of this place and are embarking on this renovation to ensure the home will stand for generations to come.

With such a rich palette of history and location, we set to work on a design that celebrated what was there, while knitting the spaces together in a way that spoke to a more modern functionality.

With views of the ocean to the northeast and southwest, the house feels deeply connected to the landscape. The original cottage had a wrap-around porch, providing a transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Taking cues from what was, we have designed a new porch to extend the experience of the property.

Construction will be underway this winter and we are looking forward to the discovery and transformation that comes with a historic renovation.
